Government passes plan to protect children
Chief of the Organization for Children D.Altai informed journalists on Thursday that the organization will implement the Government’s plan to protect children.
At the Government meeting on Tuesday, members passed the plan, which focuses on several aspects. One is to protect all children in the state, and to allocate the resources necessary to do that.
Another is to protect children’s rights in accordance with United Nations conventions. D.Altai stated that the organization will organize children’s forums to raise awareness of children’s rights. D.Altai said state and civil society organizations and NGOs are cooperating to protect children from accidents, hard labor, violence, abuse, and natural disasters.
She added that the Deputy Prime Minister passed a protocol to shelter street children in safe and warm places during the winter, and that will continue until April 25, 2012. The Government is financing the protocol and all aimags, districts, and the capital will implement it. Police, doctors, and governors of khoroos will be responsible for children who are without care. Also, countryside officials will work to protect herder children from possible natural disaster.
The Government is going to submit an amendment to the law on family, which will clarify adoption issues. The draft law will also focus on protecting children’s rights.
