Officials sign agreement on reforms
Government officials and the Swiss Agency for Development on Wednesday signed a memorandum of cooperation to improve governance. The document was signed by Chief of the President’s Office D.Battulga, Deputy Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat D.Nyamjav, State Secretary of the Finance Ministry D.Battur, and Permanent Representative of the Swiss Agency for Development Felix Fellmann at the Government House.
The project will be implemented by the President’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Swiss Agency for Development. The goal is to improve democracy by giving local settlements more decision-making power, increasing citizen input in the decision-making process, and transferring more responsibilities to local organizations.
The memorandum also calls for reforming state and local administrative organizations to make them more accountable to the public, improving services to citizens, and allowing citizens to more closely monitor governmental entities.
President Ts.Elbegdorj discussed the memorandum with the Direct Democracy Center in Switzerland in January 2011 during his official visit to that country.
