Civil movement supports teachers’ strike

The civil movement Promise Claiming People’s Union announced its support for the teachers’ strike on Wednesday. The movement’s coordinator, G.Uyanga, and members of the movement told reporters that teachers’ salaries are so low that they can not afford basic necessities for themselves and their families, including food and clothing.

But they pointed out that MPs are generously compensated. An MP’s annual salary is MNT 10 million. MPs receive additional compensation for everything from food and auto expenses (MNT 193 million) to gifts (MNT 700,000). Altogether, the movement said, MPs receive annual compensation of MNT 287.6 million – and this only includes compensation that is a matter of public record. The annual figure for all 76 MPs comes out to MNT 255.5 billion.

G.Uyanga noted that the Government has the possibility to increase salaries, but the MPP and the DP only use this possibility for themselves.
