Ch.Saikhanbileg: MPP and DP caucuses close to agreement
DP caucus chairman Ch.Saikhanbileg told our correspondent that the DP and MPP caucuses are close to an agreement on a disputed issue of the draft election law. He said he hoped the draft election law will be passed soon.
The disputed issue concerns the minimum percentage of the vote a candidate must receive before he or she is transferred from a seat that represents an electoral district to an at-large seat in Parliament.
There are no disputed issues remaining between the two caucuses, Ch.Saikhanbileg said. He said a working group comprising MPs Z.Altai, D.Enkhbat, and S.Oyun is still working on the draft law because it not only affects the MPP and DP.
Ch.Saikhanbileg added that a women’s quota will be included in the draft election law stipulating that 15 women candidates, or 20 percent, should be nominated among the 76 candidates from each political party. But political parties could choose women candidates according to their rules.
