Standing Committee discusses draft law on election
The Standing Committee on State Structure discussed a draft law on the Parliamentary election on Wednesday. Members approved a working group’s proposal to establish electoral districts by February 15.
The leader of the working group, N.Enkhbold, said the Election General Committee (EGC) has requested the establishment of electoral districts, and the committee agreed. The General Authority for State Registration has kept a list of registered voters, and much technical work will be required to determine the accuracy of the list. The current election law requires the vote to be held by the last Sunday in June, and the committee and the EGC believe much advance preparation will be required.
The head of the EGC, N.Luvsanjav, said the 2012 election will be special because of electronic voting and electronic vote counting. That is why the EGC has requested the establishment of electoral districts by February 15, because the EGC must have a list of registered voters by March 15.
The committee also approved a proposal to allow Mongolians living abroad to vote beginning 15 days before the election at Mongolian embassies and diplomatic missions.
