Prime Minister Meets with UN Secretary-General
Prime Minister S.Batbold visited Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon on October 28. S. Batbold congratulated Ban Ki-moon, who has been reappointed as UN Secretary-General. The Prime Minister urged that Mongolia and the UN, who have cooperated successfully for 50 years, hold together their relationship. The Prime Minister has said that he supports the Secretary-General’s recommendations to United Nations Millennium Development and seeing that the United Nations Development goals are successfully accomplished in Mongolia.
Mongolia is successfully performing peacekeeping activities in Libya, Chad, Sierra Leon, Congo and Darfur. Since last year a Field Ambulance unit has been working in Darfur and Mongolia has decided to also provide personnel to Southern Sudan. The Prime Minister said that he wants to send Mongolian experts to the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping and the Department of Peacekeeping of Member States.
In addition, S. Batbold also added that, ‘’Convention between governments to establish International Research Centre of Landlocked Developing Countries is going efficiently. In current seven countries have signed”.
Ban Ki-moon congratulated Mongolia for the 50th anniversary of membership in the UN and underlined that Mongolia contributes actively to actions of the UN. He highlighted Mongolia is performing active operations against the spread of nuclear weapons and making valuable contributions to peacekeeping activities, and also contributing to International research at the Centre of Landlocked Developing Countries.
Furthermore, Ban Ki-moon has marked Mongolia as a demonstrative country in taking measures against climate change, poverty relief, and decreasing unemployment.
