Mongolia holds 24th World Cadets Championship in Draughts

ULAN BATOR, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The 24th World Cadets Championship in Draughts organized by Mongolian Draughts Federation open here on Sunday. Young athletes from 15 countries and regions including China, Belgium, Cambodia, Russia, Laos, Kazakhstan etc. attended this high level contest.

"These players are not only national champions of respective countries as well as are Champions of their continents. I am very happy to see the world class players to play in our country," Sugar Dulam, president of Mongolian Draughts Federation said.

President of World Draughts Federation Harry Otten also sent a congratulatory message to the event. He said this international tournament provided not only a chance for young athletes to improve their skills but also a opportunity to meet different cultures. Otten also highlighted the rapid development of draughts during recent years, saying draughts can realize even more development for many years to come.

The draughts is one of the main sports in mind sports family, and it has more than 50 years history in Mongolia. Today the draughts has achieved great development in more than 60 countries and regions worldwide.

The championship will last 7 days till November 5.
