TS.ELBEGDORJ GIVES LECTURE AT OXFORD UNION
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Tuesday, the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj visited the Oxford Union and met its president Izzy Westbury.
The latter thanked the State Head for visiting their union at the invitation, adding "Your are the very first guest from Mongolia".
The State Head started his lecture with a history of Mongolia. He mentioned that the Mongolians established the Hunnic Empire 2220 years ago, and over 800 years ago Chingis Khaan reigned during the Great Mongol Empire in respect of a decision of the Great Khuraldai (nowadays parliament). Then he let the gathered ask questions. They varied widely--from Mongolia-India relations up to position of Mongolia over the conflicts in Arabian world and and relations with two neighbor countries.
Mr. Elbegdorj answered all questions and emphasized that Mongolia is considered as one of the top ten countries wealthiest in the world by mineral resources and that the revenues are to go for people's health and education and infrastructure.
Founded in 1823, the OU is the one of the oldest university union and it has gained a worldwide reputation for debates it runs. Many outstanding politicians and social figures have been invited to the OU's debates; former presidents of the OU are late Benazir Bhutto, a former PM of Pakistan; Boris Johnson, Mayor of London; and William Hague, the British Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State.
