Australian doctors developing Mongolia's anaesthesia training

Eleven years ago, Australian doctor David Pescod made his first visit to Mongolia to attend an anaesthesia conference.

What he found was a health system in disrepair, with outdated teaching techniques and a poor reputation for those playing such a critical part in surgeries.

The trip also began an ongoing relationship between Australian anaesthetists and their counterparts in Mongolia.

The work that Dr Pescod began is now being led by another Australia anaesthetist, Dr Amanda Baric.

Presenter: Liam Cochrane

Speaker: Dr David Pescod, author and deputy director of Anaesthesia at the Northern Hospital; Dr Amanda Baric, anaesthetist at the Northern Hospital, Melbourne
