83 toxic chemicals proposed to be banned

MPs have proposed an amendment to the law on toxic chemicals and dangerous substances that would ban the use of 83 chemicals and restrict the use of 29 more. The chemicals have been deemed harmful to human health and the environment. Parliament is scheduled to discuss the proposal this week.

The MPs discovered that the 95th protocol of the Government in 2007 contained a list of dangerous and banned chemicals, but the protocol has not been implemented.

According to a study of chemical usage in Mongolia, some 10,000 chemicals are imported into the country for use in mining and other sectors.
