Merkel arrives in Mongolia; first German chancellor to visit
Ulan Bator - Angela Merkel landed in Mongolia Wednesday, marking the first visit by a German chancellor to the Asian country of 3 million people.
She was set to meet with Mongolian officials Thursday for talks on natural resources, perhaps in the form of a deal between the German-Australian mining consortium of Operta and Macmahon and Mongolian company Erdenes TT for coal mining in Mongolia's south.
Mongolia is one of the world's most resource-rich nations, and has stores of rare earths, minerals in great demand by the high-tech industry.
