Egg-sized hail falls in Selenge Province
On July 4, Tushig soum of Selenge Province experienced severe wind and equally heavy rain around 6 pm, and also saw hailstones the size of an egg.
Though this dangerous natural phenomenon took place only for a short time, the roof and windows of the Tushig soum Governor’s Office, school, hospital, cultural center, and many households, were broken by the falling hail.
Tushig soum is known for its agriculture industry. Many pigs and chickens died when they were hit by the hail. Not only animals, but also crops, were severely damaged.
As a result of the hailstorm, high voltage pillars and communications lines were broken and the phone network and power were down in Tushig soum. Tushig soum residents were unable to report the weather conditions to the National Emergency Management Agency.
Selenge Province Emergency Management Department rescuers are now working in Tushig soum. The cost of the damage caused by the hailstorm is yet to be determined.
