UB City Mayor surveys winter readiness

Ulaanbaatar City Mayor, E.Bat-Uul, recently visited Ulaanbaatar Power Distribution Network LLC (UPDN) and Ulaanbaatar Heating Network State-Run LLC (UHN) to check in on preparation projects for the winter.

UPDN distributes power to all nine districts of Ulaanbaatar and 16 soums of Tuv Province, meaning that it supplies power for 50 percent of central region’s power consumption. This year is 81st anniversary of the LLC.

UPDN administrators voiced their problems to Mayor, as the network is no longer available to properly supply power, as citizens across Mongolia have started to migrate to the central region, especially to Ulaanbaatar.

Upgrade and repair projects at the power distribution plants are scheduled to finish by October 15. To meet the rising demand for power, additional lines, transformers and sub-stations will be built soon.

UHN will be repaired at the cost of 5.8 billion MNT, with funds acquired from state budget investment as well as its own fund in order to improve capacity of the heating distribution network in Ulaanbaatar and to prepare for the 2013 to 14 winter.

All these works are proceeding as scheduled.

The administrators also said that citizens and business entities can impact the safety of the power and heating distribution procedure. For instance, many construction projects are built these days and they are damaging the underground lines of distribution. When they are already damaged, it is very difficult to fix them.
