Border guards mark their 80th anniversary

The 80th anniversary of the Border Protection Service Organization in Mongolia took place last week. To mark the anniversary, a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial of Mongolian Border Guard Heroes, a photography exhibition, an arts exhibition depicting veteran border guards, a meeting of the honor guard, as well as a concert were held on Friday.

On Saturday, a ceremonial military march was also organized at the Central Stadium. Brigade General and Chief of General Authority for Border Protection, Sh.Lkhachinjav, officiated the march. He told reporters, “Ever since its establishment, the Border Protection Service Organization has been perfectly fulfilling its high-responsibility, demanding duties of protecting the border of our home country, and ensuring the safety of Mongolian citizens. For the last 80years, 14 border guard heroes and hundreds of gallant border guards have been born from the service. We will fulfill our duty with full honor, sustaining the good reputation of our border service in the future.”

Border guard delegates, veteran border guards and athletes from the Khilchin Sports Committee participated in the march. Though elders, the veteran border guards were marching with youthful energy and distinction.

During the military parade, the border guards also demonstrated hand-to-hand battle techniques, and showcased the talents of their trained horses and tracker dogs. The audience was captivated by dogs jumping into the cabin of a vehicle to stop its driver, catching fleeing suspects, and detecting illegal drugs.

During the equestrian performance, the border guards swapped mounts while riding in formation, jumped obstacles, performed archery and swordsmanship on horseback, and rode their horses in a ceremonial parade.

During the parade, a journalist from the local newspaper, Unuudur, met Kh.Battulga, senior musician of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Border Forces, and asked about her experiences at the event. She said, “I want to wish all the best to border force officials of every generation. My husband was one of the best chiefs of the border force service. Though he departed this world, his soul is still with the Mongolian border military. May the Mongolian border be immune and calm.”
