Hakuho M.Davaajargal Gains Third Highest Level as Sumo Wrestler

Yokozuna-titled “Hakuho” M.Davaajargal, State Honored Mongolian Sportsman and Japanese sumo wrestler, won the Japanese Emperor’s Cup for professional sumo. This is the highest division of the July tournament (Nagoya basho) which was completed last Sunday. Davaajargal took the Emperor’s Cup for the 26th time, coming in third place which is an all-time record for most career championships, surpassing his countryman, the retired Asashoryu D.Dagvadorj who won the Emperor’s Cup 25 times. There are only two more records left to break out of all the sumo records. Yokozuna Asashoryu achieved this honor 32 times, while Yokozuna Chiyonofuji achieved this award 31 times. Ever supportive of the sports, many Mongolians believe that Hakuho D.Davaajargal will break these records soon.

At the Nagoya basho, Davaajargal had 13 wins and two losses against Ozeki Kisenosato. Another Mongolian national, Yokozuna “Harumafuji” D.Byambadorj, had 10 wins and five loses.

Other Mongolian wrestlers at the event, Ozeki “Kakuryu” M.Anand finished the tournament with 10 wins and five loses; while Kyokutenho N.Tsevegnyam experienced six wins and nine loses. Tokitenku A.Khuchitbaatar persevered with four wins out of 11 losses and Shotenro D.Nyamsuren found greater success with nine wins and six loses.
