Only Mongolian horses to participate in ‘Ikh Khurd’
The Federation of the Mongolian Horse Racing Sport and Trainers announced that the “Ikh Khurd 6” horse racing tournament will be held in Kharkhorin Soum, Uvurkhangai Aimag on July 20.
An adviser of the federation, A.Bayarmagnai, said that only chosen horses from Mongolian aimags will participate in this event. “Ikh Khurd” was first organized in 1998 with the aim of establishing itself as the biggest horse racing competition with select horses from every aimag and regions participating. Since that time, it has taken place once every three years with the government’s approval. The main feature of “Ikh Khurd” is that only Mongolian horses are allowed to participate. In this horse race, there are two age categories, Azarga (stallion) and Ikh Nas, which are eligible to race. The Federation of the Mongolian Horse Racing Sport and Trainers expects over 400 horses to be part of “Ikh Khurd.” Before the race, the horse’s age will be checked by experts. Horse trainers tried to get metisse (mixed breed) or young horses (not stallions or Ikh Nas) to race in previous competitions, so organizers are asking them to follow the rule. To date, the distance of the race has not yet been determined.
