Bordering Beauty

Without border guards, who will protect our homeland’s borders? This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Mongolian border guard.

As part of the anniversary, an exhibition titled “Border, Border Guards and Homeland” opened at Mongolian Modern Art Gallery on July 15. It includes work by 11 artists, including art advocates and artists, D.Munkh and G.Dunburee, as well as Ts.Mongol, T.Nurmaajav and Ch.Erdenebat.

The artists travelled 8,252 kilometers along the boundary of Mongolia, studying the lives of border guards, and created their artwork in one month.

Around 80 paintings are displayed, showing a Mongolian mother offering tea to a Russian soldier, border guards and soldiers protecting their homeland with dogs and camels in the desert, a mountaintop, water and snow blasts, as well as love and the life of soldiers.

Administrator of the exhibition, Captain of the border guard and Colonel, D.Bold, said, “The border is a guarantee of independence. And paintings live long. That is why this exhibition is so important, because our homeland’s border is insured through these paintings. This kind of exhibition has never before been released in the history of Mongolian artists.”

If you want to learn more about Mongolia’s border and its guards, visit the Mongolian Modern Art Gallery before July 21.
