Ex-CEO of Clean Energy LLC takes the reins at SouthGobi Sands

S.Enkh-Amgalan has been appointed as the new President and Executive Director of SouthGobi Sands LLC (SGS), the subsidiary of SouthGobi Resources Ltd. The appointment was effective from 15th July 2013. SouthGobi is focused on exploration and development of its metallurgical and thermal coal deposits in Mongolia’s South Gobi Region. It has a 100 percent shareholding of SGS LLC, the Mongolian registered company that holds te mining and exploration licences in Mongolia and operates the flagship Ovoot Tolgoi coal mine which produces and sells coal to customers in China

S.Enkh-Amgalan joins SGS from Clean Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Newcom Group, where he was Chief Executive Officer and led the successful development of the first commercial scale wind farm in Mongolia. Prior to this, he gained extensive experience in the extractive industry through a number of senior management positions at the MCS Group of companies. Most recently this included Chief Executive Officer of Nordstar Resources LLC and MCS Petro Mongolia LLC. Before this he was Vice President of Corporate Development at Mongolian Mining Corporation.

S.Enkh-Amgalan gave the statement that “I am excited to be joining SGS at this important time for the business. S.Enkh-Amgalan has a Master’s degree in International Economics from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College in the United States, and holds a BA in International Affairs from the National University of Mongolia.
