Sukhbaatar Square demonstrators demand price controls
About 600 demonstrators gathered in Sukhbaatar Square on Friday to demand the Government do something to stop rising prices. The rally was organized by the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU). Civil movements including Gal Undesten and Promise Claiming People’s Union joined the demonstration.
CTU President S.Ganbaatar said it was a peaceful demonstration and appealed to people to raise their voices to protest rising gasoline and consumer goods prices.
Protesters from all 21 aimags took part in the rally.
Protesters blamed the Government for failing to regulate and monitor the monopoly of petroleum importers. Teachers, doctors, citizens, and artists all stated their opinions on the petroleum importers’ monopoly.
The Police Department of Sukhbaatar District sent a note to demonstrators reminding them to follow the rules of a peaceful demonstration. The Police General Department also sent a note to CTU Secretary N.Buyanaa asking him to keep the peace during the demonstration.
Demonstration organizers said that altogether 30,000 people demonstrated in separate rallies across the state.
