PRESIDENT LEGS OYU TOLGOI COMPANY
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Within a working tour to Omnogobi, the President Ts.Elbegdorj got acquainted on Friday with works of the Oyu tolgoi mineral deposit.
Almost three years passed since the establishment of the investment contract between the government of Mongolia and the Ivanhoe Mines company to exploit the Oyu tolgoi--gold-and-copper deposit. As of today, the construction is booming on the deposit, the construction of the 2nd vertical shaft is running with 70 per cent.
“We expect that a concentrating plant will be put into use in June this year. After this, we will continue the connection of the 2nd shaft with the first shaft underground. The mine will be put into use by 2013 and will start extraction of the minerals,” the OT's authority said.
According to the company's leaders, the construction works have attracted 65 companies from 38 countries as assistant- executors, some 15 thousand workers are employed, ten thousand of them are Mongolians.
The President highly spoke the construction running under graphics and then asked the company to augment salaries of Mongolian workers and enroll them in various trainings. Advising the cabinet to pay attention to the Mongolian workers, the State Head said a working schedule of the Mongolians ought to be considered so that to provide them with comfortable living conditions. "It is important to erect apartments campus for the workersm," he added.
The President also asked the company to study an opportunity to gather more national enterprisers who trade with the OT company.
The same day, the State Head is to hold a meeting with people of Khanbogd soum.
