CTU demands measures to stem tugrik’s fall
The DP on Monday demanded the resignation of Mongol Bank President
L.Purevdorj, blaming him for the rising prices of gasoline and consumer
goods.
At a press conference on Tuesday, meanwhile, the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU), the United Association of Consumer Rights Protection, and MP N.Ganbyamba threatened to take Mongol Bank to court.
They blame the bank for the tugrik’s fall last month, and for failing to take measures to stop it.
CTU President S.Ganbaatar said trade unions have demanded a meeting of the trilateral national committee of the Labor Social Agreement on Friday. He said that prompt measures should be taken to address the issue, and if an agreement with petroleum importers can not be reached, the CTU will complain to a court.
S.Ganbaatar also said if the Government and Parliament fail to take action, the CTU and the Consumer Rights Protection Associations will implement measures such as constructing an oil refinery and creating a reserve of consumer goods. He said the CTU will fight the petroleum importers, if they refuse to agree to lower gas prices.
S.Ganbaatar added that the CTU will monitor the state’s efforts to limit gas price.
