Turkey gives USD800,000 in military aid
Turkish Minister of Defense Mr. Vecdi Gonul arrived yesterday in Ulaanbaatar on a three-day official visit at the invitation of his Mongolian counterpart, L.Bold. Deputy Minister of Defense S.Baasankhuu and other officials welcomed the visiting team at the airport.
Gonul was given a guard of honor when he arrived at the Defense Ministry for talks. These covered several cooperation issues. An agreement for Turkish aid worth USD800,00 for the Mongolian defense sector was also signed. At a press conference later, Bold said the goal was to “elevate the ties of cooperation to a new level". Gonul said only 12 of the 60 Mongolian students in Turkey on scholarship are majoring in military sciences, and “we intend to increase this number".
Gonul will call on President Ts.Elbegdorj who is also General Commander of the Armed Forces of Mongolia. This is the first visit by a Turkish Defense Minister since 2002.
