Center for children to be set up

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ On Wednesday, the cabinet of Ministers decided to set up a State Children Protection center (SCPC).
It will be under the jurisdiction of the Labour and welfare service agency and will introduce homeless/vagrant children to social life.

The center will be set up in UB city and in provinces with the most number of such children. By providing the children with professional social and psychology services, the center is expected to considerably differ from nursing homes and welfare centers. "It is more important to constantly and with great care heal the souls of the kids who for many years have been living without knowing what the home and love are," a Ministry of social welfare and labour says.

This Ministry had highlighted a need to create the SCPC after it had implemented a project on socializing homeless children with a help of music. It helped to decrease their number by 30 percent.

As statistics show, since 1996, some 23 thousand kids have been to the Center that detains homeless children and determines their addresses. Some of them were brought there 90 times. Apart of this, more than 120 children wander by the UB streets and live in tunnels and other places, 130 children live at rubbish points, a thousand are taken care at 36 nursing homes and welfare centers. To get matters worse, a flow is increading of such children from countryside, for example, 15 came in 2007, from 2008 the number has been increasing.
