Public
awareness campaign will launch
Ulaanbaatar,
April 23 (MONTSAME) A public awareness campaign to improve citizen behavior in
relation to garbage disposal will launch in collaboration among the Ministry of
Environment and Green Development, the Ulaanbaatar City Mayor's Office, and the
Asia Foundation (AF).
Throughout the
city, billboards and posters feature the slogan “Waste Free UB is Everyone's
Responsibility” to remind citizens not to dump garbage and to ensure that UB
remains a pleasant city to live in for this generation and those to come.
Solid waste
management is a key challenge in Ulaanbaatar, particularly in the ger districts
where there are many illegal dump sites.
To act upon the campaign's slogan, the AF supported the cleanup of
garbage at the 14th khoroo of the Sukhbaatar district, 16th khoroo of the
Chingeltei district, 13th khoroo of the Khan-Uul district, 9th khoroo of the
Bayangol district, and 26th khoroo of the Songinokhairkhan district.
During the
cleanup day, the AF worked with representatives of khoroo' governors' office,
business entities, eco employees, residents, school children and volunteers to
clean up public spaces, ger streets, and gullies of the Model Khoroos.
The AF also
sponsored competitions for residents that participated in the cleanup
activities, including a cleanest street competition.
City
Municipality's representatives led by Mr. Badral, General Manager of the
Ulaanbaatar City Administration, khoroo districts' public officials, and
Foundation staff, including Deputy Country Representative Ms. Tirza Theunissen,
joined residents in local cleanups.
The campaign
and cleanup activities are implemented under the Model Solid Waste Khoroo
Project implemented by the City Municipality Solid Waste Department and the
Foundation in six khoroos within the framework of its Urban Services in the Ger
Districts of Ulaanbaatar Project. The campaign will continue until June 2014.
With generous
support from the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade Australian Aid Program, the AF initiated the 'Urban Services in the Ger
Districts of Ulaanbaatar' project in May 2012, which aims to improve urban
services in the ger districts. The AF, throughout the duration of this three
year project, is working to increase citizen participation at local level and
also support the city at the management level to improve strategic planning,
policy making and good governance.

his success was published Tuesday at the OT LLC’s website.
L.Ariunbold
recently participated for the first time in the “Best mining operator” contest
organized by the Mongolian National Mining Association and Wagner Asia LLC and
won first place in the excavator category. The contest involved four types of
heavy machinery including CAT Excavator, CAT Wheel Loader, CAT Motor Grader and
CAT Dump Truck, Approximately 75 operators from large mining companies such as
OT, Boroo Gold, Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi and Khishig Arvin Industrial demonstrated
their professional skills and speed of reaction.
For operators,
this contest is very prestigious and is viewed as a challenging opportunity to
demonstrate their skills safely. L.Ariunbold says “Operators of САТ equipment
fulfill various tasks which challenge their professional competence. A total of
ten OT employees participated. I used the excavator bucket to place a ball in a
designated hole from a distance of ten meters within 52 seconds. I did it in
shortest time and won. In this contest, it is important to adjust power and
speed and keep calm.” He has always
wanted to enter professional contests to test his skills. Therefore, when he
heard an advertisement for the competition during his vacation, he decided to take a chance. He says he wants to
participate in next year’s contest as well.
He emphasized:
“We work using the latest equipment and technology. All maintenance is done on
time, so all we need is to do our job properly. The workers are happy that the
