Manang Marsyangdi off to Mongolia for AFC President’s Cup 2014 Qualifiers
Nepal’s Red Bull Martyrs’ A Division League champion Manang Marshyandi Club (MMC) is off to Mongolia to participate in the AFC President’s Cup 2014 Qualifiers on Monday afternoon.
All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) bade farewell to the team with best wishes amid a program at Dasharath Stadium today morning. The Group C Stage matches are scheduled to kick off from May 1 to 5, 2014 at MFF Football Centre, Ulan Bator in Mongolia.
Speaking to media, captain Sagar Pun expressed confidence to advance to the next round of the tournament. He also praised their new coach Nabin Neupane who is one of the senior football players. “Neupane is experienced at setting a good team as per the quality of the players,” Pun said.
National League champion MMC will take on Cambodia’s League champion Svay Rieng in its first match on May 3.
Similarly, MMC will take on host Mongolia’s League champion Erchim on May 5. However, Erchim and Svay Rieng will take on each other in the inaugural match of the Group C on May 1.
Altogether 11 teams from the emerging countries of Asia are going to participate in the tournament which will be played on a round-robin basis.
According to the draw for the group stage held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in March, Sri Lanka Air Force, Pakistan’s KRL, Bangladesh’s Sheikh Russel and Bhutan’s Ugyen Academy are drawn in Group A.
Similarly, Philippines’s Ceres, Turkmenistan’s HTTU Asgabat, China’s Tatung and North Korea’s Rimyongsu are in Group B.
The winners and runner-ups of each group will qualify for the next round of AFC President’s Cup.
