Small- and medium-sized businesses hope to increase exports
The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry is holding a conference for small-and medium-sized manufacturers from February 7 to 9. More than 900 delegates are attending meetings at the conference, representing business owners and other officials.
The meetings are being held in the Government House and the Independence Palace. Delegates are discussing a 2009 loan program and the issues facing smaller businesses in the state, as well as exchanging ideas and opinions. Many delegates are saying the biggest problem they face is high interest rates, which make it difficult to get loans.
The head of the Small and Medium Production Office, Ts.Nyam-Osor, said the office has submitted a draft law on reducing taxes on small businesses. The law would also allow the Government to guarantee a portion of loans made to small businesses.
Small- and medium-sized manufacturers at the conference noted that, if they could export their products more easily, production would increase and jobs would be created. They are especially interested in increasing exports to Europe.
