DP caucus plans to call for special session
The DP caucus met on Thursday and decided to call for a special session of Parliament to last until Tsagaan Sar to address several urgent issues.
Caucus chairman Ch.Saikhanbileg told journalists that the caucus decided to call for the special session because a weeklong extension of the autumn session ordered by the Speaker expired on Thursday. In accordance with the law on Parliament, if one-third of MPs call for a special session, the Speaker can set the date and time.
He explained that there are several issues that need to be resolved in a special session, including several draft laws and proposed amendments to Parliament’s 39th protocol on the Tavantolgoi deposit mine. Also, the DP caucus wants to hold the parliamentary and local elections at same time, and it has proposed a draft law on local elections to change provisions that violate other laws.
The caucus does not believe holding the two elections on the same day will overburden election workers and complicate the voting system, as the Election General Committee has warned. The caucus has sent its opinion on the issue to the MPP caucus. Ch.Saikhanbileg said the MPP caucus has said it will reply after a meeting of its Managing Council.
