International morin khuur festival to be held
In connection with a presidential decree to “honor and develop the morin khuur,” the third international festival and symposium on the traditional Mongolian bowed string instrument will be held in Ulaanbaatar from April 29 to May 3.
It will be organized by the World Union of the Morin Khuur, the Mongol Nations Cultural and Research Foundation, and the Pegasus Center.
About 200 morin khuur players, people interested in learning how to play the instrument, scholars, and researchers from Russia, Japan, China, the United States, South Korea, Germany, France, and Mongolia have applied to take part in the festival.
The festival will begin with a press conference at the Mongol News Media Center at noon on April 23. It continues with a grand opening and a meeting of morin khuur researchers at the Culture Palace at 4 p.m. on April 29; a performance by foreign morin khuur players at the State Philharmonic on April 30; a morin khuur teaching session and evening of performances at the State Philharmonic on May 1; a research conference and closing ceremony at the Culture Palace on May 2; and a master’s class performance on May 3.
