DP announces results of “Mongol Citizen – 2020” forums
The DP organized a nationwide series of forums called Mongol Citizen – 2020 last year, with party officials visiting all 21 aimags and nine districts of the capital, hearing opinions and suggestions from some 60,000 citizens.
A working group that has studied the opinions and suggestions has announced the results of its work. Working group member J.Batbold said citizens suggested a beneficial and fruitful program that will be implemented over the next four or five years.
The Mongol Citizen with Freedom meetings focused on state bribery and bureaucracy. Therefore, the working group has concluded that state services need reform. Also, press freedom has been curbed in recent years. That is why the state should pay attention to it, noted officials.
The Healthy Mongol Citizen meetings focused on health care reform. The privatization of some medical services has only benefited high-ranking officials. Environmental damage due to mining activity in some aimags has negatively impacted residents. Aimags such as Selenge and Darkhan-Uul need the Government to regulate mining, but mining officials have too much say in the rules and standards.
The Mongol Citizen with Income and Job meetings focused on labor issues. Too many jobs pay very low salaries. That is why poverty and unemployment have not been reduced in the state, stated the working group.
The Educated Mongol Citizen meetings focused on education reform, especially teacher training. The state must also consider the social issues of education sector employees. Skilled teachers have left their jobs to earn more salary in other sectors. Also, the higher education sector needs reform because only 36 percent of graduates from institutes and universities have found jobs.
The Mongol Citizen with a Safe Environment meetings focused on environmental degradation, and drinking water and food safety issues. Also, traffic safety is an important issue, because approximately 4,000 children have been killed in traffic accident over the last six years. Therefore, the DP has decided to prepare a policy on the issue.
Moreover, migration from the countryside to the capital has continued, and about 450,000 local settlement residents have migrated to Ulaanbaatar. So the number of ger district households has swelled by 100,000. That is why working group members emphasized the need for the state to create a safe and healthy environment.
The DP will continue the Mongol Citizen – 2020 forum online for Mongolians living abroad.
