Forum to focus on Mongolia
REDLANDS - The next Redlands Forum will bring Mongolia to Redlands, through the eyes of Jeffrey Altschul, founder and chairman of Statistical Research, Inc., which has an office in Redlands.
Altschul's presentation, "Preserving Culture While Transforming Society," will look at how Mongolia has balanced cultural heritage preservation and economic development.
The forum is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Esri Conference Center.
The Forum is free and open to the public, but Esri asks that people register for the event.
"Today Mongolia relies on the development of its rich mineral resources to fuel economic growth," a news release said. "It is also committed to preserving its cultural heritage.
"In this forum, you'll see a real-world example of how both economic and cultural interests can find a mutually beneficial balance," the release said.
While Mongolia may not seem to have much in common with Redlands, there is a parallel when it comes to preserving cultural history.
"I think we can learn a lot from a country and culture that is working to balance development and culture," said Shelli Stockton, Redlands Forum manager. "It's something that we discuss and work on here in Redlands on an ongoing basis, so I think the subject will really ring true for our audience."
According to its website, Statistical Research, Inc., was established in 1983 by Altschul to "provide a vehicle for creative people to do interesting and exciting work on the human condition."
The Redlands Forum is held at the Esri Conference Center, 380 New York St.
