On February 20, Mongolian prime minister arrived in Australia. He started his official visit from the Mount Owen Coal Mine, approximately 30 kms from Sydney.

“I am here to get familiarized with the Mount Owen Mine as it is similar to Mongolia’s Tavan Tolgoi Coal Mine according to its geological structure and as Australia has one of the best practices in post-mining rehabilitation and safety” said Batbold.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Batbold with his accompanying delegates attended the Mongolia-Australia Business Forum.

“There are many cooperation opportunities between Mongolia and Australia, not only in mining, but also in many fields such as education, agriculture and infrastructure” Batbold said at the forum.

“In priority, we need to boost collaboration in preparation of personnel, one of key tasks of Mongolian government” he emphasized.

Austrade’s Mongolian Mining Projects Report 2011 was launched during the Forum, in the presence of Batbold and an accompanying business delegation.

Australia’s Trade Minister, Craig Emerson, has welcomed the fresh report that outlines promising investment opportunities for Australian mining companies in Mongolia.

“This report is a useful resource for Australian mining companies wanting to understand more about Mongolia’s mineral resources, its system of mining regulation and the broader market for resources in North Asia, including rare earths” he said.

“Australia’s long-standing expertise in mining and mining services continues to offer Mongolia the opportunity to use the best technologies in the world to manage their mining operations,” Emerson said.

“The fact that many Mongolians are now being educated in Australia under our scholarship programs and then returning to leading roles in Mongolian business and government is also creating closer and friendlier ties, and the Australian Government welcomes that development.”

The visit by Mongolian Prime Minister to Australia continues.
