Mongolian Environment officials meet to review work implementation
Senior environment officials yesterday held their annual meeting to review implementation of Government programs.
Minister of Nature, Environment and Tourism of Mongolia L.Gansukh opened the meeting and said the goal of the programs was to provide a proper balance between the needs of mining and environmental protection and rehabilitation. He mentioned how new legislation was helping put an end to illegal gold mining that damaged the environment in specially protected areas of Khuvsgul aimag.
Officials from Uvurkhangai aimag said there was little illegal gold mining activity there in winter but was likely to increase again in spring and summer, unless stricter measures against it were adopted.
