Mongolians Protest British Court Decision on Khurts
Roughly 50 Mongolians gathered February 23 in front of the British embassy in Ulaanbaatar to protest the recent ruling of British Court to extradite Mongolian high intelligence official Khurts Bat to Germany.
The protesters called for releasing Khurts immediately saying the British Court decision regarding Khurts was illegitimate.
The demonstration lasted for over an hour. Activists carried banners saying “Release Khurts”, “No to London Exchange” as well as “We demand Rio Tinto Get out of Mongolia”.
Khurts is wanted in Germany for his alleged involvement in the 2003 kidnap of Enkhbat Damiran, a Mongolian national who was initially taken from France to Berlin, then drugged and flown to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.
Damiran is suspected of involvement in the murder of Mongolia’s Infrastructure Minister Zorig Sanjasuuren in 1998.
Incidentally, Unuudur Daily Newspaper reports that the Inspection unit at the Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal case to inspect who ordered to snatch and bring Enkhbat Damiran in 2003 from France to Mongolia via Germany.
Enkhbat Damiran was suspected of involvement in the murder of Mongolia’s Infrastructure Minister Zorig Sanjasuuren in 1998.
