GEF SGP Mongolia Approved 9 more Environmental Small Projects
Nine more environmental small projects with total budget of MNT78.4 million were approved by the 29th GEF SGP National Steering Committee meeting.
These projects will be implemented by local communities themselves through NGOs and CBOs.
The Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) in Mongolia, implements by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provides financial support to Community Based Organization (CBO)s and local Non Government Organization (NGO)s in their biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, protection of international waters, elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), fighting in land degradation and desertification activities contributing to global environment conservation while ensuring sustainable livelihood.
Namely, “Social development and women movement” NGO will plant seabuckthorn in the Elstei valley of the Khentii province Murun soum for combating sand movement and halting desertification, “Nomin tal” CBO, Khentii province Kherlen soum will artificially grow trees in the Dulaanii enger for decreasing land degradation, “Tsembel” NGO will protect Tsembel and Bayanbulag streams from livestock overgrazing in the Erdene soum of Tuv province.
“Badmaarag” CBO will take some rehabilitating measures in the Kherlen river basin, Dund burgas and Baga tokhoi, “Gurt’s sand” CBO will preserve 2 hectares land as well as planting trees near the Gurt bridge, Khutag-Undur soum Bulgan province, “Darkhan mandarvaa” CBO will expand their tree plantation center in order to provide guaranteed tree seedlings, “Elsnii undarga” CBO will set an irrigated field of green belt in the Khutag-Undur soum of Bulgan province, “Grove of happiness” CBO will plant seabuckthorn in the 5 hectare for combating desertification in the Bayannuur soum of Bulgan province, “Jijig gorkhi” NGO will construct a small artificial pond in order to fish breeding in the “Tuul” river branch in Erdene soum of Tuv province.
