Trade sector conference begins

A conference for workers in the trade sector began in the Government House on Thursday, with more than 800 delegates from aimags and Ulaanbaatar taking part. They are discussing problems facing the trade sector, possible solutions, and future goals. Delegates will issue recommendations after the conference.

Prime Minister S.Batbold opened the conference with a speech and said that the trade sector has many roles in economic development. He said 3,878 organizations and 9,352 employees worked in foreign trade in 2003, while 6,729 organizations and 9,770 employees work in the sector today.

He thanked state organizations and the private sector for the expansion of the trade sector. He also noted that as the trade sector expands, it will face some problems. He said that is why the Government is working to improve trade legislation, implement proper policies, increase exports of value-added products, eliminate tariff and non-tariff problems in trade, and make good trade decisions.
