Researchers hope to reduce dust from mining operations
Mongolia’s mining sector is rapidly developing, and exports of coal and other mineral resources have increased in recent years.
But local residents say mining operations are creating heavy dust at the border points of Gashuunsukhait and Shiveekhuren, which is having a negative effect on the environment.
Now the Chemistry and Engineering Institute of the National University of Mongolia is researching other countries’ use of an adhesive substance that is used to reduce dust from mining operations. The substance can stay in the soil for three to four months, preventing dust while protecting the soil.
Experimental trials using the substance are being carried out in the Baganuur mining area at present. If the experiment proves successful, the substance will be used in other mining area to reduce dust.
