“Golden Kangyur” displays for the 90th anniversary of National Library of Mongolia
Marking the 90th anniversary of establishing modern library in Mongolia, “golden Kangyur” (Tibetan Buddhist Sutra) was displayed in Rare and Valuable Books Museum of National Library of Mongolia on 15th of November. In honor of the primary collection of sacred texts, a prayer ceremony was held as well.
National Library of Mongolia had over 2000 books when it was first established and currently it has over 3 million books and publications.
The museum in which the prayer ceremony took place was established in 1981 with the intention of introducing and distributing the olden recollections of Mongolian writings and scripts to domestic and foreign peoples. People were introduced with 108 volume of “Kangyur” and 226 volume of “Tengyur” kept in the museum. Elderly L.Sosor who makes cloth covers for books said “I made 108 cloth covers. As in person, it is like making deel to the books. By thinking of it as good deed, I made these cloth covers for books with children over a 10 day period. Therefore, all the cloth covers were made with my heart. ” Daily 350 to 400 people come to the library. On this special day, ninety college students were granted with library cards of National Library of Mongolia with the 90 percent of deduction in the library card price. The deputy director of the National Library of Mongolia, D.Byambasuren, said, “We announced competition among the librarians and divided them into teams. Each time should find sponsor. Our librarians were able to accumulate MNT 35 millions in six months. And the fund will be used for improving environment of the library and storage protection of the books. Sponsors were given opportunity to pray in “Golden Kangyur” and granted with tributes.” In the library, other eight canons are kept as well, such as “Derge bariin kangyur”, “Nartan bariin kangyur”.
