First deputy PM takes part in meeting of SCO
First Deputy Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag took part in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at the Konstatinov Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia on November 8.
He was accompanied by his advisor, L.Namkhainyambuu, the Mongolian ambassador to Russia, D.Idevkhten, and the head of the Neighbor Countries Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, G.Lunden.
Attendees discussed measures to prevent a global economic crisis; the widening of economic cooperation; establishing a development bank of SCO member nations; creating infrastructure; building a transportation network connecting Asia and Europe; and a united energy network.
N.Altankhuyag gave a speech and noted that Mongolia would like to take part in energy projects and the transportation network connecting Asia and Europe. He emphasized that Mongolia places importance on economic cooperation with Russia and China, the leading members of the SCO.
Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao suggested nine items, including creation of a customs structure allowing SCO member countries to transfer goods, and support for youth development issues. He noted that China will strongly support construction of transportation and energy networks.
Russian Prime Minister V.V. Putin said Russia hopes to widen cooperation with observer countries and supports trade among SCO member countries. He also said that Russia supports building an energy system in Pakistan and economic assistance to Afghanistan.
