Farmers worried about fuel price rise in Mongolia

About 800 representatives of the sector attended a conference of agriculture workers in Darkhan-Uul aimag on April 9.

Minister for Food, Agriculture and Light Industry T.Badamjunai opened the conference and described how the sector has been restructured since 2007 when the Atar III project to improve production was adopted.

He said Atar III has not been extended but the Government wants agriculture to progress, and urged domestic organizations to expand their business, and use improved technology and irrigation methods. Farmers demanded a law demarcating farm land and pasture land to avert disputes. There was concern that fuel prices have started increasing just when farm work begins. The Chief of the Standing Committee on Nature, Environment, Food and Agriculture, P.Altangerel, said decisions have to be taken on easy loans to buy seeds and fuel and on the amount of bonus for producers.
