Improved management improves crop yields
On September 4-5, for the purpose of seeing the harvesting process and to meet with local citizens, Prime Minister S. Batbold worked and resolved some issues in Bulgan, Orkhon, Darkhan-Uul and Selenge aimags. He was accompanied by some ministers and officials including T. Badamjunai, the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry; T. Gandi, the Minister of Social Welfare and Labor; L. Gansukh, the Minister of Environment and Tourism, and Yo. Otgonbayar, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science.
“Agricultural specialists estimated that over 330 thousand tons of wheat will be harvested this year. I am sure that with this volume of harvest it can produce about 250,000 tons flour and supply domestic needs completely. Not only this, but our country has the possibility to become an exporter of grain and flour,” said the Prime Minister while he was seeing harvesting processes by ‘Butliin Undarga’ LLC in Jargalant Soum of Orkhon Aimag and ‘Undragch’ LLC Shaamar Soum of Selenge Aimag. He said that providing people completely with national flour is great work and that farmers and businesses manage it with their great effort. Butliin Undarga LLC succeeds in its harvesting works with the help of soldiers from the military unit in Erdenet City based on an agreement with the military unit. This year, the company expects to harvest 30 quintal of crops from each hectare.
The Prime Minister said, “This year, our country could improve its grain quality. There has been a condition to provide domestic needs of flour, potatoes and vegetables entirely” while he got familiar with the activity of Undragch Company in Shaamar Soum of Selenge Aimag. Mr. Batbold instructed relevant officials to study the possibility to purchase about 50 percent of all harvest for the State reserves. He told farmers that the government submitted a bill to amend the Law on Value Added Tax to the parliament last spring and it has been listed on the agenda for the autumn session of Parliament. He also expressed his satisfaction for ripening and quality of the crop. “If we harvest the crops planned for this year, along with harvesting good quality wheat, there is the full potential to provide domestic needs. If national producers encourage it and government can give support, we can maintain flour prices,” Mr. Batbold stressed.
In 16 baghs each, 120 sq.m greenhouses were erected in Darkhan- Uul Aimag in line with the ATAR-III campaign. The governor of Darkhan- Uul Aimag said that one greenhouse provides the vegetable needs for over 10 families.
