S.Battsetseg Wins Gold WWC Creates History
Mongolia’s female wrestler S.Battsetseg wins the FILA World Wrestling Championship 2010. The championship was held in Moscow, Russia on September 6-12, 2010.
S.Battsetseg earned a gold medal in 59kg weight class when she defeated Tonya Lunn Verveek (Canada), four-time World Champion Shoda Ayako of Japan and World Champion Zhan Lan from China in the female wrestling event.
Mongolian State Honored athlete and World Championship’s bronze medalist Ts.Enkhjargal placed 9th in 48kg weight category. The six-time World Champion Sakamoto Hitomi (Japan) took a gold medal in that category.
In 63kg weight class of female wrestling, O.Nasanburmaa qualified in semifinal to defeat Gavhar Mirzayeva (Uzbekistan), Zutova Guzel (Azerbaijan) and unfortunately she has been beaten by Marianna Sastin (Hungary). Nasanburmaa finished the seventh in the tournament. Two-time Olympic Champion Icho Kaori from Japan claimed a gold medal in that event.
Mongolia took eight place out of 52 different nations in female wrestling’s event. Japan ranked the first, Russia is second, and third place is taken by Canada.
Mongolian top-ranked male wrestler and World Championships’ silver and bronze medalist B.Naranbaatar finished the fifth place in the men’s freestyle wrestling tournament. He won his first match by Mikhail Zakharov (Kyrgyzstan in his 55kg weight category. Also, he qualified to wrestle for a bronze medal defeating by Moki Ndive (Cameroon) and Rizvan Gadzhiev (Belarus), but he lost his bronze medal to Yasuhiro Inaba (Japan). Russia’s Victor Lebedev garnered a gold medal in that 55kg weight class. Mongolia placed the 11th in the freestyle wrestling tournament. Russia, Azerbaijan and Cuba took first-three places in that event.
