ABOUT "NEMO-2" PROJECT

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ In frames of the "The Netherlands-Mongolia Trust Fund for Environmental Reform (NEMO II)" projects some areas have been counted that have been destroyed due to extractive and exploration of mineral resources. The action has been co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, World Bank and Kingdom of the Netherlands within 2009-2010.

"Eco trade" company, selected through the tender, has revealed the destroyed 420 units of area covering 1,309,6 hectares in Dornogobi, Omnogobi, Bayankhongor, Arkhangai, Ovorkhangai and Khentii aimags and unveiled the owners. Thus it has become effective to impose a responsibility for damaging their environmental damage and to enforce payment for rehabilitation

In frames of the project, a training has run on a basis of international experience in protecting and rehabilitating the biological diversity, and methods have been developed of rating economy and ecology of the animals for hunt. Through using this methods and carried in the market researches, the ecology and economy cost have been renewed of 42 species of mammals, 242 species of birds and 34 species of fishes.

The project's money is spent for financing associations that work in environmental sector, this year the grant has gone to 51 selected projects.

The representatives of the implementing organizations met September 8 in the WB Resident Representative Office in Mongolia to share views and approve the next year's plan.
