Fishing prohibited in Altai Mountain area

Fishing has been banned until July 1 in the rivers and lakes in the Altai Mountain’s Specially Protected Area following studies showing that fish stocks of the area have decreased, and to ensure protection of fish species during the fish reproductive season, which is now beginning. The decision to prohibit fishing was made by the area’s protection authorities.

The authorities have said that fishing is prohibited at rivers and lakes in Khovd, Achit, Tolbo, Khongor and Ulun, which lie within the specially protected area.

Representatives of the Altai Mountain protection authorities said that have increased their capacity to monitor the protected area, through enrolling nature conservators, and have called on the province officials in western region provinces to do likewise.
