Softbank to Conduct Study on Wind Power Generation in Mongolia

Softbank Corp. said Monday it will launch a feasibility study on wind power generation in Mongolia's Gobi Desert.

The Japanese Internet and mobile telecommunications group will conduct tests in an area of some 240,000 hectares to collect data and analyze them before choosing a site to construct a power generation facility.

Softbank will be the first Japanese company to launch wind power generation business in Mongolia. It will set up a research company, Clean Energy Asia LLC, in the Central Asian country with Ulan Bator-based investment firm Newcom LLC next month.

On Saturday, Softbank announced plans to form an alliance with Newcom and South Korea's Korea Electric Power Corp. to launch a power generation business using renewable energy.
