SUPER COMPUTER INSTALLED IN METEOROLOGY INSTITUTE
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ A super powerful computer has been installed in the National Agency of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment Monitoring.
To a ceremony of starting it, S.Batbold was invited to the Agency on Thursday. "The made in the USA supercomputer, the latest technology, is to play its important role in times of increasing dependence on global climate change, especially for Mongolia which has animal husbandry and land farming. Another thing is that the Mongolian engineers can operate this super-powered machine and process information of high quality. It means Mongolians are together with the world development,” he said.
This computer is designed by the U.S Cray Inc., has a capacity of performing 6.5 trillion actions in a second. Mongolia has become the third country to operate this computer among East Asian countries, after China and the Republic of Korea.
A request to install the supercomputer was put by environmental experts to the Premier when he legged the Meteorology Institute in December of 2009. It has been installed with money from the governmental reserved fund.
