Mongolia forum discusses East Asia economic cooperation
ULAN BATOR, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia opened a forum here Thursday to discuss ways to promote economic development cooperation in East Asia.
Regional cooperation had become an important motivation to promote the world economy and trade, Da Zhigang, director of the Institute of Northeast Asian Studies of Academy of Social Sciences of Heilongjiang Province of China told the two-day Ulan Bator Forum for East Asia 2012 forum, themed "Resources, Transportation and Environment".
Northeast Asia had gradually evolved from a weak region in multilateral cooperation to a remarkable one with great potential, Da told the forum.
Mongolia had great potential in natural resource exploitation and the prospect for the region's economic development was promising, the Chinese expert said.
Mongolian Vice Foreign Minister G. Tenger opened the forum and L.Haisandai, director of the Institute of International Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia gave a keynote speech on "Geopolitics of Mongolia: Security and Cooperation Issues" and introduced Mongolia's special geographic location, rich mineral resources and the prospects for jointly exploiting the resources.
The forum was organized by the Mongolian Development and Research Center, and attracted some 80 experts and officials from China, Russia, Japan, South Korea and Mongolia.
