Inner Mongolia-Kentucky Living Landscapes festival kicks off

LEXINGTON, Kentucky, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- "Living Landscapes," an exhibition of the people, land, and livelihood of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China and the U.S. state of Kentucky, kicked off on Sunday in the University of Kentucky (UK).

Running on Sept. 22-28, the event is presented by the UK College of Fine Arts and the UK Confucius Institute in partnership with the Art College of Inner Mongolia University (IMU) and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region International Culture Association.

It has brought more than 30 students, faculty and administrators from IMU to UK's campus to participate in master classes, workshops and lectures to explore both Eastern and Western cultural themes, from throat singing to classical singing. Additional events including art exhibitions, music and dance concerts are open to the public for free.

Global Contemporary: Art From Inner Mongolia, an exhibition as a part of the "Living Landscapes", is held in the Art Museum of UK. Featuring 13 oil paintings and watercolors, it attracts lots of visitors.

"We have more than 800 people coming here this weekend for this exhibition," said Janie Welker, curator of collections and exhibitions of the Art Museum.

"We are very pleased to have the arts from Inner Mongolia to be here, to have such a partnership with IMU, they are really beautiful," Amy Nelson, acting director of the Art Museum of UK told Xinhua at the exhibition.

According to UK, the "Living Landscapes" had been prepared for more than a year under an agreement for promoting education and academic exchanges between UK and IMU, including exchanges of students for study and research; exchanges of faculty for research, lectures and discussions; exchanges of academic materials and publications; and joint research activities.
