7.2 billion MNT in cigarettes confiscated

The State Specialized Inspection Agency conducted an inspection of the implementation of Mongolian Tobacco Control Law and the Law on Operation Permits of Business Entities throughout spring and summer this year. All 21 provinces and over 3,000 businesses in Ulaanbaatar were inspected.

The inspection didn’t detect any violations of cigarette manufactures, packaging, warnings, or cigarette related advertisements. However, it found that 20 percent of the inspected businesses in Ulaanbaatar had violated regulations on unauthorized retail cigarette sales, while four to five percent of province entities were guilty of the same violation. Tirlik Market in Bayan-Ulgii Province, Tsagaan Ger and Bishrel shops in Murun soum of Khuvsgul Province were caught selling cigarettes without a permit.

Numerous individual citizens were also found to be selling cigarettes in the street without a permit.
