Draft law submitted for a 3-day national holiday during Tsagaan Sar
Member of Parliament Su.Batbold has submitted a draft bill to the Speaker of Parliament, Z.Enkhbold, on Monday, to make some amendments to the law on public holidays and occasional days. The bill proposed changes to the observance of Mongolia’s lunar new year celebration.
According to a report from Parliament’s press agency, during the submission to the Speaker, the bill’s initiator, Su.Batbold, noted that all countries have their own traditional holidays which reflect its nation’s features and customs, unique celebrations observed widely in addition to popular “international” holidays like New Year’s Eve and Christmas. He also pointed out that foreign countries officially celebrate their traditional public holidays for up to three days.
In Mongolia, employees are allowed two days off for the first two days of Tsagaan Sar, or White Month, according to the law. However, the new draft bill states to make the change to a nationwide three days off during Tsagaan Sar. Three days is more suitable, as we are a nation of people who live far away from each other in a vast territory, said MP Su.Batbold.
