"NOVOSTI MONGOLII" CELEBRATES ITS JUBILEE IN ULAN-UDE

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ An event for the 70th anniversary of the MONTSAME's “Novosti Mongolii” Russian-language weekly newspaper started on Friday in Ulan-Ude city, the Russian Buryatia Republic.

A delegation headed by D.Ariunbold, an acting director-general of the news agency, was welcomed by V.G.Gavrilov, the first deputy Mayor of Ulan-Ude. Mr. Gavrilov expressed satisfaction with the visit of the MONTSAME officials. “I know that the national news agency of Mongolia has a 90-year history. We have traditional friendly relations with Mongolia. The 'Novosti Mongolii' paper was founded in 1942, the most hard times of the Great patriotic war. We know that the Mongolians gave aid and assistance to our Red Army during the war,” he stressed.

Mr. Gavrilov pointed out that Ulan-Ude city closely cooperates with Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan and Erdenet cities, and then wished the newspaper big successes.

The same day, a news conference on the newspaper's 70th anniversary was called in the Central Library named after Kalashnikov. The MONTSAME's acting director-general D.Ariunbold made the opening remarks. He said the first issue of the "Novosti Mongolii" was published on May 1, 1942, the very first newspaper in Mongolia published in the Russian language. “I am glad to say that a famous linguistic Byambiin Renchin has significantly contributed to forming the present image of our newspaper and its publication policy,” he said. Highly educated people, including famous translators and diplomats of Mongolia, worked in the newspaper. D.Ariunbold thanked L.Javzmaa, the General Consul of Mongolia in Ulan-Ude, and G.A.Aidayev and other officials for and running the event.

Certificates of honor were granted to L.Javzmaa, the General Consul of Mongolia; to Z.G.Sangadiev, a deputy Mayor of Ulan-Ude city and head of the Economic Development Committee; and to A.R.Dondubon, the Representative from Ulan-Ude to Ulaanbaatar city. Moreover, photo exhibitions about the Mongolia-Russia cooperation and the 20th anniversary of the "Khumuun bichig" newspaper were opened.
